The Top Gun All Stars out of Miami, Florida are living legends in the sport of all star cheerleading. This competitive season, one Top Gun team has dedicated all of its performances as tribute to their fallen legends, to all of the "jags" whom they have lost far too soon.
In an early May morning last year in Miami, Florida, soon after Cheerleading Worlds, tragedy struck the Top Gun family. First came the news that Carlos Carerra, a former member of the Large Coed team, was gravely injured in a car accident and did not survive. Just two hours later, there was a second car accident. Tragically injured this time was one of the athletes from the Large Coed team that had just competed and won 3rd place a few weeks earlier at Worlds. After a brave and arduous battle in the hospital, that brave Jag, Omar Moreno, lost his fight for life.
In true all star fashion, the cheer athletes took their pain and turned it into something positive, an energetic and heartfelt tribute that their fallen teammates would be proud of. Their tribute season began when the International Open 5 team, known is i5, changed its name to OO5 for Omar's Open 5. Top Gun is known for its innovative choreography, but for this season, the choreography would be innovative and healing for the Top Gun athletes. Jose Gonzalez, Coach at Top Gun, said, "This was our open team's 'Year of Remembrance' to honor not just one extremely special individual, but all the fallen Jags-turned-Angels throughout our gym's history. It was extremely important that the purity of this tribute be captured in the uniforms. GK's talented staff and commitment to excellence helped us do just that!"
GK was honored to work with Top Gun to design the perfect cheer uniform for OO5. The women's cheer crop top is made of White DryTech in an elegant off the shoulder design with White Mesh with White Sparkle underlay on the sleeves and criss cross neck straps. Steel Mystique was used to create gorgeous angel wings on the back that wrap around to the front of the cheer top. cover the wings and dot the neckline and straps. Top Gun is spelled out across the chest in Clear, Metallic Silver, and Gold SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS with a delicate halo over the "O." At the intersection of the back straps, is Top Gun's infamous paw print made of Gold & Black Mystique complete with the GK logo and Omar's name as the final and perfect element. Their coordinating low rise cheer skort is made with the same fabrics and accented with two Steel Mystique angel feathers in the lower left corner. The men's v neck, long sleeve cheerleading top and coordinating cheer pants echo the angelic design theme with the same Steel Mystique angel wings and matching embellishments. What a lovely & powerful tribute!

The sport of all star cheerleading is fiercely competitive, no where more so than Worlds, but Top Gun's OO5 is a shining example of everything else that all star cheerleading is, it's all heart.
