LAX cheer is all fired up for their next competition in their new GK Elite cheerleading uniforms!

The LAX "Los Angeles Xtreme" All Star program premiered at the LA School of Gymnastics in the Fall of 2007. Under the direction of Cheer 4 U Athletics, this All Star Competitive Cheerleading program has grown from a 20-girl Senior Level 2 Division to a successful regional and national program that includes Senior Level 1, Junior Level 2 and Senior Co Ed Level 3.

Athletics Director, Joana Trocan, and former Lakers Girl, Lindsay Dahlin say that LAX's 7th season is off to a great start. The team made some positive changes last season, including new GK cheer uniforms and the addition of a full-time tumbling coach, Ashley Williams. With the previous improvements, new choreography, and the new "LAX" name, the Los Angeles Xtreme team is sure to make heads turn in 2014 when they travel to Palm Springs, Anaheim, Ontario and Las Vegas in hopes of placing in their respective divisions.

We're thrilled to feature this fierce Texas team, Pearland Elite All-Star Cheer Explosion (P.E.A.C.E.) in their new custom-designed cheer uniform.

The moment is finally here. We've just released The Next Level 2014 GK Cheer catalog.  It's online right now! But first we have to give credit where credit is due. There's no mistaking that the entire company has put a lot of hard work and creative energy into this new book, but the real brains behind the project is Cindy Artz, GK Cheer's Marketing Manager. Cindy challenged herself to take GK Cheer's 2013 product offerings and presentation to the next level, to make changes that would invoke the passion, drama and creativity that we expect from all of our best athletes.  Here's what she has to say about it.

GK: There are a lot of changes to the new catalog this year, and we’re very excited to see what you’ve done, but first tell us about all of the things you love about the 2013 edition that we can expect to see again this year.

 CA: 2013 was a great year for GK because we introduced the one piece uniform and cheer leotard, as well as the School Fit line, and both were successful. When we asked our customers to ‘Make a Statement’ our All-Star and High School teams both saw the creative potential in these one-piece garments and designed some really unique and gorgeous uniforms. You will definitely see that in our catalog for 2014. The School Fit gives middle and high schools the opportunity to make a statement as well, by replacing their dated uniforms with more stylish trends that are also conservative enough to appease school officials.

Of course the GK performance practice and camp wear is a tried and true collection that you'll continue to see for years to come. Athletes love this collection because it's both comfortable and stylish, and it's available in an array of color combinations. We have ramped that line up a bit to include even more style and color selections.

GK: Who is featured in the 2014 Cheer Catalog?

CA: For 2014, we have a wider variety of models ranging from mini’s to college level cheerleaders to give a better representation of our size selection. All of our styles are available in child extra small to adult 3x. You'll also see some familiar faces from popular teams such as Maryland Twisters, Cheer Tyme, World Cup, and many other well-known all star teams from around the country. The catalog wouldn't be complete without some of our best high school athletes as well.

GK: What has GK done to make browsing the catalog easier for the consumer?

CA: This year, for ease of shopping, we divided our catalog into two parts, the GK All Star Collection and the GK School Fit Collection. Since the catalog is dual-sided, each collection occupies its own front cover, allowing you to easily find what you're looking for. This separation also allows us to give each group their own inspirational design gallery with larger photos throughout. It's really an amazing concept.

In addition, we color coded each section of the catalog so you won't have to flip through the entire book to find what you want. Now, when you are looking for a size chart or a Design Studio page, you'll now exactly which section of the catalog to flip to.

GK: What types of trends can we expect to see this year in cheer uniforms?

CA: This year we will continue to see the cheer leotards and one piece uniforms grow in popularity. Both silhouettes allow for some amazing and creative design elements throughout the torso area that traditional two piece styles cannot.  We will also see sublimation become very popular in both competitive uniforms and in practice wear. GK’s ink’d sublimation program allows teams to create one-of-a-kind prints that will reflect their personalities. You'll send us a concept, and we'll create a print just for you. It's really exciting.

GK: Speaking of exciting, what are you most excited about in the new catalog?

CA: I’m most excited about the Custom Design Gallery. The gallery showcases some of the most breathtaking and innovative designs we collaboratively created with our customers in the past year. I wish we could have added even more ideas because our customers tend to be the most creative athletes in the industry. Unfortunately, we could not put all of our custom designs in the catalog, but we hope that the designs we have featured will inspire teams to be creative with their uniforms.

The introduction of GK’s ink’d sublimation is also very exciting to see. The program has been years in the making, taking the necessary time to research the best technology, fabrics and inks. It’s great to finally be able to make it available to our customers and to let them see why it’s the best sublimation available in the cheer industry. Sublimation is available in Special Order styles for competitive uniforms, practice wear and warm-ups. Just pick your style, give us your color and print ideas, we’ll take it from there!

GK:  What did you add to the selection that customer have been waiting to see in the GK line?

We've increased our color selections in our most popular styles and we also added in stock School Fit basic skirts in Black DryTech and Navy DryTech. These styles are in stock and available to ship in only a few days.

GK wanted to know what high school cheerleaders and coaches think of GK Cheer Uniforms, so we reached out to our charismatic Account Manager, Kyle Gadke for some insight. Kyle has many years of coaching experience under his belt, and has worked with GK Cheer since 2010. Here's what he had to say...

GK:     What do you like most about working with high schools?

KG:    I love working with the high schools in my territory because they are just as innovative thinkers as any other client. Illinois has a HUGE eye for fashion and trends, and they appreciate the value of the "look good, feel good" mentality. As representatives of one of the most talented skill-based states for high school cheer talent in the country, they want their athletes outfitted in the best uniform they can offer. That's one reason why you'll see so many Illinois cheer teams wearing GK Cheer uniforms this season.

GK:     What misconceptions do high school coaches have about GK uniforms?

KG:    The biggest misconception I have found is that GK only sells $600 F5 Uniforms. Because of this elite image, coaches have been hesitant to request uniform designs. The reality, however, is that we have uniforms for any budget. I've even outfitted high school teams in cheer uniforms for under $60!

I keep an array of previously ordered high school uniforms on file to help explain which of GK's customization options will meet the team's needs and budget requirements. Previous designs also give coaches a visual image of what GK offers..Some of our high school options include ourschool fit skirt, which accommodates our conservative schools, our regular rise skirt, which is great for traditional schools, and a low rise skirt for those schools who are fashion forward.

GK:     What trends are you seeing in the high school market?

KG:     The biggest trend in the Illinois High School market has been custom cheer leotards with incorporated mesh inserts. The cheer leo appeals to coaches because it offers complete coverage. It also fits great and allows for more creativity, better lines and an amazing visual effect. 

GK:    What makes GK high school uniforms stand out compared to our competitors' high school looks?

The fit and the overall quality. Customers always tell me that you can hold a GK Uniform next to ANY other vendor's uniform and our product will always stand out. GK is becoming a 'house-hold" or should I say  "school-hold" name. Coaches contact me because GK is what their cheerleaders want. If you see our uniform on another team, you can't help but to be envious.

GK:     What would you say to a coach who is getting ready to order new cheerleading uniforms?

KG:    Shopping around is inevitable, but I challenge coaches to order a GK sample and compare it to other vendor samples. There will be no comparison in quality, fit or style. RCX loves the sleek, semi-transparent look of the black mesh. To accompany this fabric, GK does offer an optional Shadowproof lining for under the mesh detailing. This lining provides added support if needed. To complete this custom look, Royal selected a Low Rise skort in White Drytech and continued the style lines and colors for a flawless look. SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS always create a fierce sparkle on stage, and this team had them meticulously placed along the Ocean Mystique binding throughout the design and loaded up on them around their custom appliqué embroidery team logo.

In a world of electronic socialization, it's never been more important to connect with customers on a personal level. Since customer service is the difference between a positive and negative ordering experience, we want to know just how well does GK measure up?  To find out, we asked Territory Account Manager, Carey Tiernan.  Carey's background as a national cheerleading champion, dancer, cheerleading judge and All-Star Cheerleading Director qualifies her to tell it to us straight. Does GK Cheer continue to take customer service to the next level? Here's what she had to say:

GK:    Having worked with other cheer apparel companies in the past, how does GK’s customer service compare?      

CT:      GK's customer service doesn't compare to any other company that I've worked for or with in the past. GK TRULY does strive for customer satisfaction, and I've personally witnessed some amazing interactions!  This sentiment of pleasing customers encompasses the entire company, from upper management, design and customer service to production and quality control. Everyone is on board. Sometimes this entails admitting and correcting a fault of our own, and sometimes it means that we bend a bit to minimize effects of a customer's oversight. You can't beat that kind of customer service!  

GK:     How does GK's large selection of in-stock practice wear compare to GK’s competitors’ offerings?    

CT:    Whereas most companies have a niche, GK offers a variety of styles from value-driven to eccentric. GK:     Communication is key in this fast-paced industry. How do you keep your customers informed?  

CT:     In addition to regular phone calls and text messages, I'm also consistent with email updates. These updates includes pertinent industry and production information such as new trends and products, delivery times and reminders to begin designing uniforms for the upcoming season. With all of their responsibilities as coaches and directors, it's important that our customers know we're here to help.

 GK:     GK manufactures their uniforms and practice wear in Reading, PA. How does that benefit the customer?   

CT:     I can't say enough about how much I LOVE working for a company that manufactures their uniforms right here in the USA!! It's very important for our customers to buy American!  In doing so, they get a higher quality garment, superb customer service, and delivery times that aren't effected by customs or overseas delays. In addition, the economic benefits are immense. American-made cheer uniforms....it doesn't get any better than that! 

GK:     GK has no contracts. Why is that important to a customer?    

CT:     As a former all-star director, I find that freedom to purchase products from the location of my choice is key to running an efficient and effective program.  Each and every team that we work with has a distinct personality. In this industry, unique is key.  By dictating purchasing options, we would destroy that unique culture, and threaten our own growth. Nobody likes to be stuck in a contract. Custom cheerleading uniforms make a statement. It's that simple. The process of designing a custom uniform, however, may not be so simple, and can actually be overwhelming for a first time customer. To learn more about the rewards, benefits, and even struggles of ordering a custom cheer uniform, we talked to our GK Cheer National Sales Manager, Alicia Whatley. Here's what she wants you to know.

GK:     We know that the custom design process can be overwhelming to a customer. How do you help them through the process?

AW:    Yes, the custom design process can be very daunting for a customer, especially if they aren't familiar with the process. It's important that these customers have a basic overview of the steps we'll take to move forward. First, we'll establish a budget, as well as a necessity and wish list. From there, the customer can begin building their uniform. The GK Account Managers are always available to answer questions, either immediately or shortly thereafter, any time of day. Prompt customer service is a vital step in the overall process.  It can make a world of difference when assisting a cheer program with a new uniform design.

GK:      Many customers have the misconception that all custom designs are expensive. What recommendations do you have for budget-conscious customers?

AW:     Building a custom uniform is no different than building a house or ordering a pizza. Added options create a unique and intricate look, which equates to more money.  It's that simple. There's an advantage to working with an Account Manager because we're familiar with the GK pricing structure, allowing us to guide you through your list of priorities. We have a wealth of knowledge and we've seen a variety of designs and ideas, both practical and eccentric. Sometimes the cheer look you're going for can be accomplished with a slightly different and less costly variation of elements.

GK:     What are the benefits of a custom design?

AW:    The benefits of a custom design are endless! Any cheer uniform can tell onlookers a bit about your team through style and color selection. A custom design has the potential to tell a story, to really make a statement.  No two cheer programs are alike, so why should they have similar uniforms? In addition, the power that these masterpiece uniforms have over your team's confidence and motivation is awesome. You'll find that looking the part of a high profile team helps performance levels tremendously. Psychology is a power tool.

GK:     What is the most popular custom design trend this year?

AW:     One of my favorite trends in cheer apparel is the cheer leo. It's brilliant! Not only does it offer great coverage, but the athletic support of the garment is incredible.  It's form-fitted for increased safety and comfort, and WOW does it look sharp!

GK:     How do you feel when you see one of your designs hit the competition floor?

AW:     It is a truly rewarding feeling seeing a uniform hit that competition floor and come to life! Custom uniforms aren't just about style and color.  They're about embellishments, appliques, and unique logos.  They're about combining styles from two different uniforms to create a complete masterpiece, one that says, "Hey, this is who we are!" Most importantly, it's a source of pride for everyone involved in the program. Taking that pride to competition is what we live for.
